Popis

Podle některých zdrojů je právě toto malebné osmitisícové městečko snad tím nejnavštěvovanějším rekreačním centrem na jadranském přímoří. Tomu odpovídá i obrovská ubytovací kapacita. Součástí Poreče je taktéž menší ostrůvek Sveti Nikola, od kterého nás dělí vzdálenost jen 400 metrů. Hlavním turistickým lákadlem a velmi cennou historickou pamětihodností v jednom je unikátní Eufraziova bazilika, která byla před několika lety zapsaná do seznamu světového kulturního dědictví UNESCO. Stavba pochází již ze 6. století a byla zasvěcena místnímu biskupovi a mučedníkovi sv. Maurovi. Pojmenována je ale podle svého stavebníka, biskupa Eufrazia. Velkolepé jsou hlavně nádherné byzantské mozaiky Matky Boží nebo Krista s apoštoly. Byla by veliká škoda, nechat si tento skvost ujít. V těsném okolí Poreče se nachází množství rozličných letovisek, jako je známá Lanterna, Ulika nebo Plava a Zelena laguna. Ve zdejších borových hájích si leckdo může připadat jako v pohádce, vždyť často sahají až přímo k hladině moře. Oblíbenou turistickou atrakcí je pobřežní autovláček, jehož výchozím bodem je náměstí Svobody.

V minulosti byl Poreč římskou kolonií a plnila vždy, i později za byzantské nadvlády, velmi důležité funkce. V období, kdy byl součástí Rakouské říše, se dokonce stal hlavním střediskem Istrie. I v pozdějších obdobích bylo toto město v područí cizích vlivů, během druhé světové války bylo dokonce obsazeno Němci, což na něm zanechalo znatelné stopy. Více než 70 % budov bylo v této době zničeno. Patrně nejstaršími dochovanými svědky historie jsou pozůstatky Neptunova a Martova chrámu ze 2. století. Příklady románské architektury můžeme obdivovat tzv. Dům s balkonem nebo nově opravený Kanovnický dům.
