Velmi oblíbená turistická oblast, nazývaná nezřídka tou nejkrásnější destinací východního Jadranu, má svůj počátek v severozápadní oblasti Chorvatska, hned u letoviska Rogoznica. Končí na jihovýhodě přístavem Ploče.Originálně kombinuje přírodu a její klid s bujným životem a výtvory lidských rukou. Do pobřeží se zakusuje množství malých kouzelných zátok, co oko dohlédne se ve vlnách osvěžují ostrůvky různé velikosti a nechybí samozřejmě i bohaté borovicové háje, zklidňující ruch z turistických letovisek.
Právě v mnohých z nich je zřetelná tradice přímořských rekreačních pobytových míst, která byla velmi oblíbená již po první světové válce. Pro turistický ruch byly v této oblasti vždy velmi příhodné podmínky, o což se zasloužila hlavně absence znečišťujícího průmyslu. K největšímu rozvoji ubytovacích zařízení došlo v 60. letech minulého století, ale výstavba nových hotelů a apartmánů samozřejmě neustále pokračuje. Přece jen nemají zdejší letoviska takovou ubytovací kapacitu jako například v Istrii, i když například Makarská riviéra v sezóně doslova překypuje návštěvníky.
Co se týče pláží, najdeme ve střední Dalmácii především kombinaci písku a drobnějších oblázků, což se jeví jako nejpříjemnější kombinace pro ničím nerušený odpočinek ve sluneční lázni. Pokud se vám bude zdát, že se zde cítíte příjemněji a klidněji než kdekoli jinde, může to být i všudypřítomnou zelení, kterou na jedné straně tvoří hlavně borovice, na straně druhé však i rozličné další rostliny a dřeviny, které zde byly uměle vysazeny. Vzhledem ke stále větší popularitě aktivních dovolených přibylo také množství sportovních středisek či půjčoven sportovního nářadí, aby návštěvníci udělali něco i pro své zdraví.
V popředí výčtu pozitivních vlastností této oblasti patří výborné dopravní možnosti. Nechybí dvě letiště, konečná stanice vlaků ze Záhřebu, přístavy trajektových i dálkových lodních linek nebo i poměrně nově dokončená dálnice ve směru Záhřeb - Split. Vzhledem k výhodné poloze se nabízí spousta míst, která můžete navštívit a udělat si tak nádherný výlet. Podívejte se do centra historického Šibeníku, k proslulým vodopádům řeky Krky, zajeďte si na koňské dostihy do městečka Sinj nebo zažijte jedinečný adrenalinový zážitek při prohlídce safari na kánoích nebo kajacích. Největší chybou by ovšem bylo nenavštívit mimořádné krasové jevy, Modré a Červené jezero u městečka Imotski.
